Rating the Female Trios of Final Fantasy: Pop Culture Curmudguin

Having just played and finished Final Fantasy 13 for the first time, I was planning on writing my review for the site.  However, there isn’t much more I can add to the excellent review of the game for the site 6 years ago.   However, as I was playing the post-game with the three female characters, I soon realized that every Final Fantasy game I have played all featured three and just three females.  It made me wonder if Thirteen had the best trinity of “girl power” in any Final Fantasy game.  Developing my system to rate, here is my review of every trio of females in Final Fantasy, from Six to Thirteen.

The Greatest Films of 1986 (almost) – Pop Culture Curmudguin

Sorry for not posting on this website for so long…it’s been hard enough to update my own website, let alone another’s.  Anyhow, there is one article I was looking forward to writing, and this is it.  This my list of the top movies of 1986.  In most years I have a hard enough time coming up with 10 films, and in those I would have no interest in watching again any not in the top 3.  But this year was amazing for movies.  Of my top 10 favorite movies from the 1980s, five are from this year.  Heck, the top 4 are contenders for my favorites of all time.  This is a solid list.  So solid that I had to make it my top dozen as I felt I had to put the #11 and #12 on the list.  It is that good of a list.

Wrestlemania Impossible: Pop Culture Curmudguin

It is becoming ridiculous.  Just this week both John Cena and Sasha Banks have become injured.  In fact, everyone who had a title belt at the end of Wrestlemania 31 is out on injury, with most of them not likely to be able to perform at Wrestlemania 32 at the big cathedral for football Jerry Jones built for his Dallas Cowboys.  What could possibly fill all those seats.  Well, it was difficult, but with a little penguin brainmonsooning, here is the best possible card WWE could possibly have for their signature event,

Twelve Demands for WWE: Pop Culture Curmudguin

A few months ago, I was being quite productive as a writer, both for this site and my site.  But it has arrived at a point where I can’t give a darn about anything I used to be a fan of, except for penguins and Transformers, and I don’t have the moolah to finance my fandom for them.  One of these interests I used to care about is wrestling.  Come January or February I will have been a fan for WWF/WWE for 30 years, but I don’t even bother to DVR Raw anymore.  What will it take for me to come back?  Well…

R.I.P. Kevin Corcoran: Pop Culture Curmudguin #41

Welcome back to Pop Culture Curmudguin.  As I write this article, news passed hours ago that Kevin Corcoran has passed to that great rookery in the sky.  What’s that?  You have no freaking idea who Kevin Corcoran is?  Well, actually that is not that big of a shock as long as you are not a big pre-Eisner Disney fan.  Kevin was a child actor who appeared in many Disney productions in the 1950s and early 1960’s.  Was he any good?  Wellllllllllllllllll…

The Final Countdown: Pop Culture Curmudguin

Growing up, it took me a long time to get to where I could enjoy the music of my generation, outside of music video shows like Nickelodeon’s Nick Rocks.  There was especially a big delay in enjoying Rock music.  As a treat in school, I got to enjoy listening to the cassette (look up what a cassette is on Wikipedia kids) labelled Europe’s The Final Countdown album.  Recently I finally found after who knows how many years my copy of the CD (don’t need to look up what that is yet) of the album.  So for this PCC, I am looking at each of the songs on this album.

The Ideal Fantastic Four Movie — Pop Culture Curmudguin

Last weekend saw the biggest bomb since the last H-bomb was tested: Fantastic Four.  The two previous FF films are not that highly rated, and this one was generally deemed the worst.  Even the never officially released 1994 Fantastic Four movie is seen as a better film.  So what would it take to make a decent Fantastic Four movie?  Let Bedford fill you in.

First Look: Amazing Spider-Man

Continuing my series of watching famous geek movies I have never watched before, we now look at the Amazing Spider-ManAmazing Spider-Man was a reboot Sony did to renew the franchise.  Was it any good?  We shall see.  Once again, I start with snarky comments, and then go to final thoughts that are super spoilerish.

First Look: Dragon Ball — Pop Culture Curmudguin

Due to our esteemed Emperor’s love for Dragon Ball, we here on the site have been getting a lot of interest from Dragon Ball fans. However, I have personally never watched a single episode ever. This was mostly purposely, as sometimes the look of an animated character makes me want to steer as far away from the show as possible.  (One Piece is the poster boy for this.)  However, I believe in actual fairness, so I have endeavored to watch an episode.  My research said that “Bulma and Son Goku” is the first episode, so I’ll be watching it.  As with my previous first looks, I will give snarky comments and then go full spoilerish in my analysis.
