The recent issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter confirmed what we reported on Monday’s episode of QCW Radio about Sheamus vs. The Undertaker being one of the planned matches for Wrestlemania. Although I would like to see the match from a pure in-ring standpoint, there are others that could be As I stated on that show, Cena vs. The Undertaker in a title unification bout would make the most sense in terms of box office draw for both the casual WWE fans as well as the hardcore fans, who have been clamoring for this match for a long time. Cena and Taker briefly feuded in the summer of 2003, but this was before Cena was the top guy in WWE.
According to the newsletter, Miz vs. Cena is another planned bout for Wrestlemania. That match doesn’t exactly scream “Wrestlemania” to me, as Cena should be positioned higher on the card and Miz should have a match to elevate him. In a perfect world, Miz would face and pin Triple H clean at Wrestlemania, solidifying himself as a top guy. Of course, the chances of that happening are about as likely as the chances of TNA actually becoming competition.
The other match that WWE has thought about tossing on Mania is Money in the Bank. Yes, I know, three a year is overkill and everybody knows it, but with the Money in the Bank PPV’s buyrate being lower than expected (likely because there WAS another earlier in the year), WWE is looking to toss in a multi-man match to fit some guys on the card.
Of course, it’s likely all of this will change 100 times before Wrestlemania anyways.
