All of the ripped ticket stubs – all of money spent on concessions – all of my movie reviews – have lead up to THIS – the one night that recognizes the best in film of the past year – the Academy Awards.
As I did last year (in my “Epitome of Randomness” section of Issue #9 of The Wide World of Sports-Entertainment), I will be previewing tomorrow night’s (or tonight’s, depending on what time you’re reading this) ceremony by breaking down the 6 major awards categories (Best Picture, Best Director, and the 4 Acting Awards) and giving my predictions for each one. Do I expect the Academy to throw a few swerves this year? Alas, “True Grit Week” comes to an end with this – the FIFTH edition of The Epitome of Randomness. In this edition, I will be comparing BOTH the 1969 and 2010 versions of True Grit and finding out which one, in my opinion, is the superior film. Fair warning, though, THERE WILL BE SPOILERS FOR BOTH FILMS WITHIN THE CONFINES OF THIS COLUMN, so read on at your own risk (or if you just don’t give a shit about spoilers). So sit back, relax, and enjoy!
“True Grit Week” continues with my review of the brand-new 2010 version (currently playing in theaters) – starring Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, Barry Pepper, and Hailee Steinfeld – directed by the Coen brothers.
